Grangemouth Air Cadets (ATC) Pipe Band

January 2009

1333 Grangemouth ATC had a Pipe Band in the late 50s and early 60s, but like so many other bands of that era, fell away. Our Pipe Major, Neil Clark, was asked in 2005, to form a Pipe Band in Falkirk Squadron, and began building the nucleus of our band today. He was immediately assisted by Hugh Wilson, who had been Neils' tutor since 1969, and taught hundreds of youngsters since as Tutor to the then Central Region Schools.

The band have mainly performed at local functions, but in 2009, three of our pipers travelled to Poland with Grangemouth Squadron, and went down a storm, appearing on the BBC as a result.

Cadets are also encouraged to undertake the BTEC (Music) project which, when completed, gives the cadet an academic award equivalent to four standard grades. Most of the work involved can be acheived through normal band practices and functions, and is a great opportunity to gain a qualification whilst enjoying yourself.
